Big third quarter lifts East Jay girls

MUNCIE — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team used a big third quarter to pull away in a 54-21 victory against Muncie Southside.
The seventh grade Chiefs lost, 29-15.
East Jay’s eighth graders had a 28-19 lead after intermission, and outscored Southside 17-2 in the third quarter then held the Rebels scoreless in the final period.
Gwen Omstead led the Chiefs with 19 points while Klarissa Hemmelgarn added nine and Hannah Dillon tallied eight. Clare Dirksen chipped in with six points.
Macey Weitzel had four points for the EJMS seventh graders. Mackynzie Fairchild, Mikele Suman, Sara Muhlenkamp, Kristy Robbins and Taylor May each scored two points.
Chiefs top Titans
Michael Schlechty and Ryan Schlechty led the East Jay eighth grade boys basketball team to a 51-46 win Monday against Muncie Northside at Jay County High School.
The seventh grade Chiefs lost 41-33.
Michael Schlechty scored 19 points and Ryan Schlechty tallied 17 points in the win. Parker Grimes and Korbin Auker followed the with six and four points respectively. Brandon McIntire and Elijah Corwin added two points apiece.
Gabe Link led the seventh graders with 15 points, and Noah Arbuckle scored 13. Cameron Henry tallied three points, and Ethan Corwin had two points.
Eagles rout Warriors
GASTON — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team dominated the host Wes-Del Warriors on Monday in a 31-8 victory.
The seventh grade Eagles lost 21-19.
Rhegan Shimp and Calli Crosby both scored eight points to lead the eighth graders. Kameron Edwards tallied five points, and Kendal Garringer tallied four points. Randi Ferguson, Dawn Minnick and Riley Leavell all added two points.
Hallie Fields scored a team-high 12 points for the WJMS seventh graders.
WJMS boys split
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split with the Wes-Del Warriors on Monday.
The eighth grade Eagles won 29-27, and the seventh graders fell 33-27.
Wyatt Geesaman had 15 points and six rebounds for the West Jay eighth graders. Noah Harris chipped in with seven points and 11 rebounds, and Nick Raines added two points.
Trevon Vore notched a double-double for the seventh grade Eagles, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Storm McLaughlin added seven points and four rebounds.
