Capsule Reports

Deer struck
Two accidents involving deer took place Monday in Jay County.
A Fort Recovery man was involved in an accident Monday morning in Wayne Township.
Brett Ellenberger, 40, 303 W. Milligan St., was driving east on county road 100 North, west of county road 100 East, when a deer ran onto the roadway. He was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his 2003 Ford F150. Damage in the 7:51 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
A Decatur woman was involved in a collision Monday evening in Penn Township.
Selena Crump, 27, 2950 W. 1100 North, Lot 52, told officers she was driving east on county road 300 North, east of 750 West, when a deer walked into the path of her vehicle. She was unable to avoid hitting the deer with her 2003 Dodge Durango.
Damage in the 6:45 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.

Parking lot accident
A Portland man was involved in a collision Monday morning in Portland.
Timothy Newton, 64, 5610 S. 650 East, told officers he backed into a parking spot at Windrush Apartments, 997 Boundary Pike, to leave the lot, and when he turned left out of the parking lot, his 2004 Toyota Corolla struck a parked vehicle.
The parked vehicle, a 1996 Chevy Cavalier, is registered to Rachel Morgan, 329 S. Washington St., Montpelier.
Damage in the 11:17 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.

Right angle collision

A Portland man and a Portland woman were involved in a collision Monday evening in Portland.
James LeMaster, 67, 234 W. Votaw St., told officers he was driving south on Meridian Street and pulled into the yellow hash-marked area to turn left into the Family Dollar parking lot at 703 N. Meridian St. He told officers he saw another vehicle exit the Village Pantry parking lot at 704 N. Meridian St. and accelerate quickly heading north on Meridian Street. LeMaster began to turn his 1990 General Motors Suburban when the other vehicle struck him.
Brenda Walker, 45, 3400 S. 400 East, told officers she pulled out of Village Pantry’s parking lot to go north on Meridian Street, when the Suburban turned in front of her and the two vehicles collided.
Walker was driving a 1988 Chevrolet, registered to Kevin Walker, same address.
A witness, Chris Hudson, 1375 N. 200 West, Portland, told officers he was in the Village Pantry parking lot when he heard the Chevrolet accelerate quickly going north and then heard the collision.
Damage in the 6:10 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.

In area courts
A Portland man was recently arrested in Adams County.
Adam D. Freeman, 30, Portland, was arrested and booked into Adams County Jail on Dec. 4 on an outstanding warrant.
His bond was set at $4,000 surety and $450 cash.
Three local residents were sentenced in Celina Municipal Court.
Mason Schmackers, 21, 612 St. Joe Road, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest to failure to maintain lane of travel and an amended charge of failure to maintain physical control of a vehicle while under the influence. He was fined $1,150 plus court costs.
Susan Pugh, 51, 1396 State Line Road, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest to failure to stay in a marked lane and an amended charge of willful and wanton disregard for safety. She was fined $1,000 plus court costs.
Jason Hug, 32, Portland, pleaded no contest to two counts of failure to reinstate a license and failure to wear a seat belt. He was fined $105 plus court costs.
