Patriots to play SW

DECATUR — The Patriots won’t have to go far when they open the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament.
Jay County High School’s boys and girls basketball teams will travel to Poneto to take on the Southern Wells Raiders in the quarterfinal round of the ACAC basketball tournament.
South Adams will host Leo.
The tournament, which begins Jan. 13, will feature the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds at host schools, with the championship to be played at the StarDome in Berne.
The title game was previously held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
All quarterfinal games will be doubleheaders, with the boys tipping off at 6 p.m. and the girls to follow.
The Jay County-Southern Wells winner will advance to the semifinals against either Bluffton or Adams Central.
The winner between South Adams and Leo will advance to the semifinal against either Heritage or Woodlan.
The boys semifinal will be Jan. 14 and the girls’ is slated for Jan. 15. Semifinal locations are yet to be determined, and all games begin at 7 p.m.
Championship games are Jan. 17 in Berne. The boys title game will tip at 6 p.m. with the girls game to follow.
Times and locations for the consolation games will be announced at a later date.
Woodlan’s boys squad is defending tournament champions, while former conference member Garrett won the girls’ title last season.
