Right angle collision
Two Portland women were involved in an accident Thursday afternoon in Portland.
Brandy McKibben, 30, 101 S. Pierce St., Apt. 10, told officers she was traveling west on Main Street when she stopped at the intersection with Wayne Street and answered her cell phone. She told officers when she began driving again her 1999 Pontiac Montana through the intersection, it collided with a vehicle traveling south on Wayne Street.
Lacey Huntsman, 23, 4839 S. 600 East, told officers she was traveling south on Wayne Street when the Pontiac pulled out in front of her 2003 Ford Taurus. She told officers she tried to brake, but the two vehicles collided.
Damage in the 1:17 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Recycling trailers
Jay County Solid Waste District will have recycling trailers from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday:
•MainStreet Market parking lot, Portland. Judan Judo.
•Former Ludwig’s parking lot, Dunkirk. West Jay Optimist Club.
Scam warning
Jay County REMC warns area residents to be wary of electric utility scams that are representing themselves as REMC employees to collect money.
Most customers are being contacted by phone with a threat of disconnecting electric service if not paid. REMC officials said they will not call, or show up at a resident’s home, to collect money for their service.
If customers are worried about their account, they should call REMC at (800) 835-7362 or (260) 726-7121.
