RICHMOND — The Patriot boys basketball team stayed close with the Red Devils for 16 minutes.
They even had a four-point lead on three separate occasions.
But 19 points in the third quarter gave host Richmond a comfortable advantage, and it hung on for a 51-45 victory, handing Jay County its first loss of the season.
Richmond (4-2) went 4-of-5 from the perimeter in the third quarter and made eight of its nine free throws to preserve its lead despite a late surge by Jay County (4-1).
Brothers Justin (11 points) and Adam Dirksen (10) led the Patriots offensively.
