Off road collision
A New Castle man was involved in a collision Saturday night in Penn Township.
Alexander Jackson, 21, 2018 S. 18th St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving south on Ind. 1, near county road 150 South, when his vehicle went off the west side of the road. His 2001 Cadillac Deville entered the ditch and became stuck.
A preliminary breath test showed a 0.02 percent blood alcohol concentration, which is under the legal limit, but was arrested for impairment after officers learned he had taken medication. Results of a blood test are pending.
He was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor, and booked at 9:15 p.m. into Jay County Jail. He was released Sunday on a $1,000 bond.
Damage in the 8 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.

Deer struck

A Portland man was involved in an accident Saturday morning in Jefferson Township.
Jeffrey Ratliff, 46, 418 W. Main St., Apt. B, was driving west on county road 400 South, when a deer ran into the roadway. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his 2004 Dodge Caravan. Damage in the 6:45 a.m. collision was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,000.

Theft reported
A theft was reported Sunday to Portland Police Department.
Melissa Edwards told officers she purchased Common Ground Artistry Ink, 218 N. Meridian St., Portland, and all of its contents. She said on a recent visit to the building she noticed several items missing.
The theft was reported at 2:28 p.m.
