Chief girls clobber Raiders

PONETO — The Chiefs are still perfect when it comes to conference play.
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team pushed its Allen County Athletic Conference record to 4-0 on Thursday with a 35-14 clobbering of the host Southern Wells Raiders.
The Chief seventh graders fell, 27-23.
Kendra Muhlenkamp scored eight points to lead the EJMS eighth graders (6-1, 4-0 ACAC). Gwen Omstead and Klarissa Hemmelgarn both had six points for the Chiefs, who also got five and four points respectively from Kailee Denney and Hanna Dillon.
Mikele Suman paced the seventh grade Chiefs (1-6, 1-3 ACAC) with eight points. Anhely Montes followed with five points, and Sarah Muhlenkamp chipped in with four points.
Mackynzie Farchild, Taylor May and Macey Weitzel contributed two points apiece.

Chief boys split
East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team moved to 3-1 in the ACAC with a 48-18 thumping of Southern Wells at home on Thursday.
The seventh grade Chiefs lost, 34-22.
Isaac Moeller paced the EJMS eighth graders (7-2, 3-1 ACAC) with 11 points. Michael Schlechty chipped in with eight points, and Matthew Franks tallied seven.
Elijah Corwin totaled six points, and Ryan Schlechty and Gavin Randall both had four points.
For the seventh grade Chiefs (3-6, 2-2 ACAC), Noah Arbuckle and Gabe Link had 10 points apiece.

Geesaman leads WJ
WINCHESTER — Wyatt Geesman recorded a double-double to lead the West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team to a 35-33 victory Thursday against Winchester Driver.
West Jay’s seventh grade team lost 31-23.
Geesaman totaled 20 points and 10 rebounds. He also totaled eight blocks.
Nick Raines followed with seven points and five rebounds. Noah Harris and Jaden Robbins contributed to the win with four points and five rebounds each.
Trevon Vore had a team-high nine points and 15 rebounds for the WJMS seventh graders. Brinnin Wasson chipped in with six points, and Storm McLaughlin added five.
The eighth grade Eagles moved to 5-3 on the season, while the seventh graders fell to 2-6.

Driver tops West Jay
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both lost to Driver on Thursday.
The seventh graders fell 36-9, and the eighth grade Eagles lost 39-14.
Dawn Minnick led the WJMS eighth graders with four points, and Rhegan Shimp and Riley Leavell each chipped in with three points.
Kendal Garringer and Calli Crosby tallied two points apiece.
Asilyn Davis recorded four points for the Eagle seventh graders, and Sarah Bowdell followed with three points.
With the loss, the eighth graders fall to 3-3 on the season. The seventh graders dropped to 1-5.

Tribe 7th wins
DELPHOS, Ohio — Grant Knapke and Riley Post both scored in double figures in the Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team’s 36-32 victory Thursday against St. John’s.
The Tribe eighth graders lost 39-23.
Knapke had a team-high 17 points, and Riley Post added a baker’s dozen for the seventh grade Indians.
Noah Lennartz led the scoring effort for the FRMS eighth graders, tallying eight points. Mason Will tallied seven points in the loss.
