Sports brief: Jay Co. drops Starfires

BERNE — The Patriots and Starfires were shooting 50 percent or better in the first half this afternoon.
Things fell apart for the Stars in the third quarter.
Jay County’s girls basketball team held South Adams scoreless for more than eight minutes today in a 50-34 road victory.
With the win, the Patriots move to 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. The Starfires, meanwhile, fall to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the ACAC.
Jay County’s Abby Wendel tied her career-high with 19 points and freshman Hanna Ault, making her first varsity start, poured in a career-high 11 points in the Patriots’ third straight win.
