BERNE — The South Adams High School boys basketball team snapped its 21-game losing streak on Dec. 20.
Saturday, it won back-to-back games.
Cole Myers poured in a game-high 19 points and three other Starfires joined him in double figures as South Adams defeated the Union Rockets 70-53.
South Adams (2-4), which matched its win total in each of the previous two seasons, had a 19-17 advantage after the first eight minutes, and extended its lead to 27-21 at the break. The Starfires came out of halftime on fire, scoring 22 and 21 points in the third and fourth quarters respectively.
Conner Sealscott followed Myers with 16 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 effort from the field.
Jared Grabau and Derek Wanner each chipped in with a dozen points, and Grabau hauled in a game-high eight rebounds. Wanner led all players with four assists.
Dylan Moore paced the Rockets with 13 points.
Three Patriots go 3-1
A trio of Jay County wrestlers went 3-1 Monday at the inaugural Jay County Junior Varsity Winter Classic at JCHS.
Logan Drumm and Nick Lykins both posted a 3-1 record in the 126-pound weight division, while Jacob Schmit turned in the same mark at 160. Drumm and Lykins placed third and fifth respectively, and Schmit was also third.
Mitchell Ferguson went 2-2 to finish second at 120.
Also competing for the Patriots were Dustin Minnick (145), Max Schmit (160) and Simon Brumfield (220).
Tribe edges LCC
FORT RECOVERY —Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team held off the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds on Monday in a 54-52 victory at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The freshman girls lost to Coldwater, 45-35.
Cade Wendel paced the freshman boys with 18 points, and Evan Post tallied a dozen. Ethan Schoen added 10 points.
For the Fort Recovery girls, Kiah Wendel recorded a team-high 14 points. Sydney Dues and Chloe Metzger each had seven points.
