In the 2007 season the Rockets won 21 games. With nearly a month to go, this year's group has already matched that total.
Portland jumped on top with two runs in the first inning Thursday and defeated Fort Wayne's Summit City Sluggers 7-3 to improve to 21-6 on the year.
The team lost its first 10 games last year, but has gone 42-16 (.724) since then.
The Rockets pushed their lead to 4-0 before Fort Wayne got on the board with three runs in the sixth inning. But the home team tacked on two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to put the game away.
Corey Murray tossed the first 6 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits to earn the victory. Jay County High School graduate Josh Shatto did not allow a hit in relief, and Matt Ousley (South Adams) tossed a one-two-three ninth inning.
Steve Wiegle led the Portland offense by going 4-for-4. Justin Brannock hit a two-run shot in the fifth inning for his first Rocket home run.
