211 info on the way (3/17/04)
Taking Note
United Way of Indiana and The Indiana 211 Partnership, Inc. are working toward organizing a statewide assistance program. Instead of 911 callers would dial 2-1-1, an easy to remember toll free social service phone number.
A trained professional would then answer, assess their needs and offer referrals to human services programs.
Allen, Huntington, Wells and Kosciusko counties have recently launched the service. Organizers want all Hoosiers to have 211 access by 2005.
Anyone wanting additional information may call Janet Macklin at the United Way of Adams County at (260) 728-2056.
FFA EVENTS HELD
The Fort Recovery FFA Chapter recently held its annual FFA Petting Zoo to celebrate National FFA Week and to promote agriculture.
The event was held in the Fort Recovery Agricultural Shop where FFA members brought pigs, puppies, turkeys, goats, calves, rabbits, and other animals for children to pet.
About 200 pre-school, kindergarten, first graders and children from the community were in attendance.
Greenhand Initiation was recently held for first year FFA members. Members’ hands are colored green in honor of the Greenhand FFA Degree, which is the first stepping stone in FFA.
Members have to be enrolled in an agricultural class, demonstrate knowledge of FFA history, the FFA Creed, the FFA Motto, the FFA Salute, have a Supervised Agricultural Experience program, and meet other requirements to receive the award.
The following students received the Greenhand, Tana Bergman, Joel Bey, Kyle Brockman, Emily Crouch, David Fortkamp, Jesse Fortkamp, Nick Grey, Jennifer Guggenbiller, Scott Hein, Matt Heinrichs and Virgil Heinrichs.
Also Shelby Knapke, Vanessa Kremer, Melanie Lennartz, Jackie Link, Andy Lochtefeld, Matt Lochtefeld, Troy Metzger, Kyle Nietfeld, Lori Osterholt, Betsy Overman.
