Abbott records hat trick

MUNCIE — Alex Abbott scored two second-half goals to complete his hat trick Tuesday as the Jay County High School boys soccer team tied the Muncie Central Bearcats 4-4.
Abbott’s first goal came in the 15th minute to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead after Zane Shreve found the back of the net three minutes earlier. His second goal 10 minutes into the second half broke a 2-2 tie, and he would score again six minutes later on a penalty kick to give Jay County a 4-2 lead.
Four minutes after Abbott’s hat trick goal, the Bearcats scored to cut the Patriots’ lead to one, and Central tied the game with eight minutes left in the second half.
The Patriots held the advantage in shots 16-10, and Kyle Dirksen had six saves as goalkeeper for Jay County.
JC girls golfers win
Sydney Mathias and Katlin Petro continue to finish at the top of the Jay County scorecard as the Patriots defeated the visiting Union Rockets 210-256 Tuesday at the Portland Golf Club.
Mathias led all golfers with a 49, edging out Petro by two strokes for match medalist honors. The two each had one par, with Mathias shooting even on the 290-yard, par-4 fourth hole, and Petro on the 348-yard, par-4 ninth.
Maddison Baughn (53) and Abby Saxman (57) rounded out Patriots’ top four.
JC boys tennis blanked
MARION — The Jay County boys tennis team was blanked 5-0 by the Marion Giants on Tuesday.
No. 1 singles player Nick Leuthold dropped straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to Teja Srikanth, and Shweiterman and Alex Clark lost by scores of 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively.
In No. 1 doubles action, Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor fell 6-1, 6-2 to Amosh Sehgal and Andrew Spitzer while Matt Blackford and Alex Kreig lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.
