AC student wins REMC art contest (05/13/06)

An artist from the Jay County REMC territory won first place and Artist of the Year in the Cooperative Calendar of Student Art.

This is the first year in the calendar contest’s nine-year history that there has been a first-place winner from the Jay County REMC service territory.

Rachel Crisp’s painting of a small child amidst a pile of pumpkins was chosen to illustrate the month of November, and the painting was also named Best in Show.

Crisp, the daughter of Jay and Lisa Crisp, Decatur, also recently won Best in Show in an Adams County art contest and is a junior at Adams Central High School.

Vectren announces

Budget Bill

Vectren Corporation announced this week that its Energy Delivery Budget Bill payment plan will now be available to small businesses, churches and nonprofit organizations.

The payment plan, previously only available to residential customers, allows the average annual cost of utility bills to be spread out over a twelve month period.

To qualify, the customer’s annual natural gas consumption must be less than 5,000 CCF and their electric consumption must be less that 100,000 kilowatt hours per year and the customer must be in good financial standing with Vectren.

Payroll association

meeting scheduled

The East Indiana Payroll Association will hold a membership meeting at the Delaware Country Club Thursday, May 18 at 11:30 a.m.

The cost of the meal is $13 and the meeting is open to the public. Guest speaker will be Pam Frazee from the Department of Labor.

Portland native

elected to board

Andrew Reitz, son of Allen and Nancy Reitz, Portland, was recently elected as a board member of the Generation Dayton Steering Committee, an organization that helps young professionals develop skills and build relationships with existing business and community members.

Reitz, an associate attorney at Faruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L. in Dayton, graduated with honors from Wabash College in 2003 and Indiana University School of Law in 2003.

He is a national member of The Order of Barristers and practices business and commercial litigation with an emphasis on quasi-contractual disputes and complex business torts.

Finalist for Entrepreneur

Michael Anderson, president and CEO of The Andersons Inc., as been selected as one of four finalists to respresent northwest Ohio in the Great Lakes Entrepreneur of the Year.

The honor was announced Thursday, and the regional winner will be announced June 8. A national event will take place November 18 in Palm Springs, Calif.

The Andersons Inc. has grown from a small family farm begun in 1947 to a public company with grain, retail, turf and ethanol pursuits and employs more than 3,000 people.

Earns certification

An area banker recently earned his CPA certification and has been approved for this license by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Travis Penrod, controller of First Bank of Berne has been employed with the bank since September 2005.

He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 2001 from Manchester College and earned his Masters of Accountancy from Manchester in 2002.

He resides in Huntington with his wife, Laura, who is also working to obtain her CPA license.[[In-content Ad]]
