A Columbia University student will be heading to Broadway after playing the starring role in a musical and directing another at Jay County Civic Theatre in Portland.

Victor Souffrant will play the roll of Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" to begin tonight at Arts Place in Portland at 7 p.m.

The play is based on the Biblical Old Testament story of Joseph and is being directed by Jay County native Ric VanSkyock, who returned from the East coast where he was working as a performer and choreographer for Six Flags Amusement Parks and Toby's Dinner Theatre of Baltimore.

After Souffrant ends his portrayal of Joseph, he will direct the show "Evita" to be performed at Arts Place in June.

Then it's off to Broadway where he will play Aladdin in "Aladdin: A New Musical" to open in February of 2011 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The show will also include Neil Patrick Harris, who stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother" and played the lead roll in "Doogie Howser, M.D.", as the comedy-filled Genie.

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" will continue Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.; April 21 through 23 at 7 p.m. (April 21 will be a reduced price for groups of 10 or more) and April 25 at 2 p.m.

To purchase tickets, visit Arts Place at 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland or call (260) 726-4809.
