Adams Central defeats Starfires (10/03/2008)

BERNE - South Adams High School's volleyball team lost in three games Thursday to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets, 25-19, 25-9, 25-15.

The defeat dropped the Starfires to 2-20 on the season. Their wins came against Bluffton and Wawasee.

Jacie Yoder had 13 assists, nine digs and an ace to lead SAHS against Adams Central.

South Adams also dropped the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-6.

EJ destroys Northside

The East Jay Middle School football teams never gave Muncie Northside a chance. The Chiefs won Thursday's eighth grade game 54-14 on their home field, and the seventh graders dominated for a 38-0 victory as both squads improved to 5-1.

Cade Price racked up 203 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries for the EJMS eighth graders, and Brock McFarland had two rushing TDs and an interception return for a score. Gerardo Perez finished with 82 rushing yards and a TD, and Trent Whitenack had five tackles.

Ryan Claytor ran wild for 137 yards and four touchdowns on just 11 carries for the seventh grade Chiefs, and he also returned a kickoff 65 yards for a TD.

Zack Metcalf scored the other EJMS TD, and Jason Houston totaled six tackles.

Price leads Eagles

DUNKIRK - Megan Price led a top-three sweep for the West Jay Middle School girls cross country team as the Eagles hosted Union (Modoc) Thursday.

The WJMS girls posted a score of 19 while Union did not have enough runners for a full team. The Eagle boys lost, 15-48.

Price set the pace in the girls race, winning in 13-minutes, 18 seconds. Miranda Gerber was the runner-up in 13:31, and Jenna Starr placed third with a time of 15:06.

Mykala Grayson took fifth in 15:23, and Lynsay Buckland was eighth at 17:23.

Keegan Gerber led the West Jay boys in sixth at 13:14, and Jordan Wood was ninth at 14:29. Jesse Finnerty finished in 14:32 for 10th place, followed by Lee Mock (12th - 16:31) and Jon Lowe (13th - 17:07).

Chiefs top Baskett

Game two was tough on the East Jay Middle School volleyball teams Thursday, but they still came away with a pair of victories. The Chiefs won the A team game 25-22, 23-25, 15-7 and the B team game 25-15, 22-25, 15-7 over R.J. Baskett (Gas City).

Breanne McIntire's 17 points, five digs and three kills led East Jay (11-2), and Jessica Kerrigan had 14 points, five assists and four digs. Catherine Dunn had 16 points and four digs, and Malarie Houck finished with 15 points, including 10 aces.

FR ties in 7th

FORT RECOVERY - One touchdown apiece accounted for all the scoring in Thursday's seventh grade football game as Fort Recovery Middle School and the Versailles Tigers tied 6-6. The Indians lost the eighth grade game, 34-12.

Stew Alig accounted for the only score for the FRMS seventh graders on a 40-yard run. Trent Kaiser scored on a 60-yard run for the eighth grade team, and Mitch Vagedes added a 45-yard TD run.
