Ag projects top permit list

Three people received building permits totaling $775,000 from the Jay Building and Planning Department in January.
Alfred Post received a permit for a swine confined feeding building ($700,000) at 7623 S. 700 East, Union City; Joanne Bills received a permit for a grain bin ($50,000) in the 400 block of E. 600 North, Bryant; and Randy Davidson received a permit for a pole building ($25,000) at 5223 N. 650 West.

Annual meeting
The annual meeting of Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union was held Jan. 26 at Arts Place in Portland.
CEO and President Janet Bantz reported the financial condition of the credit union. She said that total assets at the end of the year totaled $40,285,00; total loans at the end of the year totaled $23,987,000; and total deposits were $35,991,000. She also reported that total membership at the credit union increased by 231 in 2012 to 8,714 members. Crossroads also re-elected Gene Jackson and Florine Golden to three-year terms on the board of directors.
The credit union operated two offices in Portland, one in Dunkirk and one in Winchester.

IU Health receives accreditation
The Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Physical Rehabilitation Center has received a three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for the ninth consecutive time.
The center received the accreditation for its Stroke Specialty Program and the overall program. CARF accreditation is the highest level of accreditation awarded to physical rehabilitation facilities.
“The program went through an extremely detailed review process and it shows that we have a very high standard of excellence for our patients,” said Paula Tyler, orthopedic service line leader at the center, in a prepared statement.

Freeland wins award
Fort Wayne Businessman Dick Freeland received Gov. Mike Pence’s first Sagamore of the Wabash award.
Pence presented the award to Freeland during a private ceremony in Fort Wayne on Wednesday. Freeland was recognized for his entrepreneurial spirit, public service and courageous work.
 Freeland, who is chairman of the board of Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne Inc., opened his firs Pizza Hut in Fort Wayne in 1972. He now owns 48 Pizza Hut restaurants, including one in Portland.
“I’m so honored to give my first Sagamore of the Wabash to Dick Freeland, an extraordinary Hoosier who exemplifies great leadership and tenacity in his business and personal life,” Pence said in a written statement.


Pesticide
applicator program
The Purdue extension office will host a private pesticide applicator recertification program at IVY Tech Community College’s Marion Campus on Friday.
The meeting will count toward one of three PARP meeting credits required to keep the PARP license from expiring at the conclusion of a 5-year active term. Sign-in for the program, which is open to the public, will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be a $10 PARP program fee. For more information call (765) 651-2413.

Name change
Farm Credit Mid-America recently changed the names of its organizations.
The Board of Directors of Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, ACA, FLCA and PCA changed the names of each organization to Farm Credit Mid-America, ACA; Farm Credit Mid-America, FLCA; and Farm Credit Mid-America, PCA, by a resolution adopted at a June 20 board meeting. The name change became effective at the close of business on Jan. 31.

Vectren offers funds
Evansville-based Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana will match all public donations to its Share the Warmth Inc. program this winter, up to $200,000.
Share the Warmth, a nonprofit organization, allocates funds to agencies who administer the Indiana’s Weatherization Assistance Program. This weatherization initiative is designed to offer long-term energy conservation benefits to low-income, single family homeowners.

Tyson invests
Tyson Foods Inc., the parent company of Tyson Mexican Original, recently announced it has made capital investments exceeding $40 million in four of its plants.
The investment could create up to 490 jobs. Expansion projects are under way or completed at plants in Sherman, Texas; Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and Glen Allen, Va. The Bruss Company, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, recently opened in Jacksonville, Fla.
“These are major investments we believe will help us maintain our position as a leader,” Donnie Smith, president and CEO of Tyson Foods, said in a prepared statement.[[In-content Ad]]
