Building permits with a total project value of $764,800 were issued in February by Jay/Portland Building and Planning.
Topping the list were several agriculture projects and a new home.
Here is the list of projects for which permits were approved: Double D Ag, 7782 W. 50 South, Portland, grain bin, $200,000; Adam Westgerdes, 7718 E. 500 North, Portland, new home, $180,000; G&L Farms, 4800 W. 650 North, Pennville, two grain bins, $150,000; Jeff Buhlman, 4800 W. 650 North, Pennville, grain dryer system, $100,000; Zane and Lori Shawver, 840 W. 100 North, Portland, attached garage, $16,000; Michael Timmerman, 3152 N. U.S. 27, Portland, garage, $12,000; Tom Homan, 1947 E. Division Road, Portland, pole building, $11,800; and Brooks Fugiett, 6748 W. 600 South, Redkey, pole building, $10,000.
Also issued by the department was a business occupancy permit for Closet Update (owned by Kari Guntle), 222 W. Lincoln St., Portland.

Leaving post
Mike Row, director of economic development in Wells County since 2007, announced this week he is leaving his position to take a position with a private company.
The announcement came this week during a meeting of the Wells County Economic Development Council board of directors.
Row, who has been frustrated by lack of funding for economic development in the county, will become chief operating officer at Edge Manufacturing, Bluffton.
New center open
Mercer Health opened up its new cardiopulmonary rehabilitation center Feb. 29 in Coldwater, Ohio.
The 1,200-square-foot facility offers commercial grade exercise equipment.

Official ketchup
A marketing partnership has made Red Gold ketchup the “Official Ketchup of Six Flags.”
The partnership includes Red Gold condiment stations and a signature Red Gold sandwich at select food locations in all U.S. Six Flags amusement parks. Red Gold will also receive in-park advertising across the Six Flags digital networks.
Red Gold, which has a plant in Geneva, is the largest privately-owned tomato processor in the U.S. Consumer brands include Red Gold, Redpack, Tutorosso and Sacramento.
Six Flags is the world’s largest regional theme park company, with $1 billion in revenue and 19 parks in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

New director
David Brown, a graduate of Ball State University, has been named director of marketing and business development at Muncie Mall.
A Greensburg native who graduated from North Decatur High School, Brown served as a guest services representative then as a marketing assistant.
One of Brown’s primary duties will be to work with local businesses on finding advertising solutions.
“I’m glad I could stay in Muncie for this opportunity,” Brown said in a press release.
Muncie Mall has more than 70 stores and is owned by Simon Property Group, an S&P 500 company headquartered in Indianapolis.[[In-content Ad]]
