Local roundup

INDIANAPOLIS - Three players picked up honors Monday for their efforts in helping lead the Jay County High School football team to its best season in school history.

Kaleb Hemmelgarn, Clint Muhlenkamp and Lance Franklin were named to the Class 4A All-State team by the Indiana Football Coaches Association. Heath Moser of South Adams was named all-state in Class 1A.

Hemmelgarn, a senior, anchored a Patriot offensive line that improved throughout the season. After a slow start, the left tackle helped clear the way for seven straight 150-yard rushing efforts and five in which the team picked up more than 200 yards on the ground.

Franklin, a junior linebacker, and Muhlenkamp, a senior safety, led the JCHS defense in its first sectional championship season in school history.

Franklin was among the state leaders in tackles with more than 140 for the year. He also had nine sacks and a pair of interceptions.

Muhlenkamp finished the year with more than 80 tackles and a pair of interceptions.
