Annual Pumpkin Fest will be Sept. 18, 19
Taking Note
The annual Pumpkin Fest will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, and Sunday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Myers Farm.
The event is free and will feature an 1840 trappers camp in the woods, petting zoo and wagon rides. There will be pumpkins, gourds, straw bales, Indian corn, mums, corn shocks, soy candles, apples and cider and Halloween décor.
This will be the last year for the pumpkin fest, which is located at 807 West 500 North. For more information, call (260) 726-2093.
Fun Fest
The Fort Recovery State Museum will have an “Archaeological Family Fun Fest” on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tony DeRegenaucourt, an archaeology explorer, will speak on the “Archaeology of Greenville.” Greg Shipley, an artifact collector, will speak on “McKee’s Town.” Ball State archaeologists will speak on “Discovering the St. Clair and Fort Recovery Battlefields.” Bill Pickard will present “A Tale of Two Horses: The Occurrence of a War of 1812 Double Horse Burial.” John Christian Rummel will present “Renaissance in the Ohio Valley: The Art, Ideology and Culture of Hopewell.”

The Genealogy Library that was located at 109 S. Commerce St. in Portland moved to the Jay County Historical Museum last month because the roof was leaking at the Commerce Street location.
Probates and court documents have been stored in the Gilpin Annex. Anyone wanting to do researchwith those documents must notify the museum two days in advance so staff will be available to assist you. The phone number is (260) 726-7168, email is [email protected].
Graduates
Students from Fort Recovery graduated from Ball State University in the spring.
Daniel Heitkamp, Jenna Thien and Seth Bihn, all earned bachelor’s degrees and Tracy Dilworth earned a master’s degree in education.
