Arabians end Patriots' season

Local roundup

MARION — Just as they did a year ago, the Patriots made an appearance in the regional semifinal.
For the second straight year, they were shut out.
Jay County High School’s girls tennis team’s season ended Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to Pendleton Heights in the regional semifinal at Marion.
The Arabians (21-5) advance to play the host Marion Giants (15-3), which beat Delta 3-2 Tuesday, in the regional championship match at 5 p.m. today.
Jay County (4-11) wasn’t able to win a game in the top two singles matches and at No. 1 doubles. The Patriots’ Jessica Kerrigan and Morgan Kaufman lost 6-0, 6-0 to Emma McCardwell and Carly Wilson respectively at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Shawna Miller and Sydney Bost fell to a set of Pendleton Heights twins, Audrey and Kayleigh Corn, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Kyra Braun battled with Sam Hammel, but eventually fell 6-2, 6-0. Jay County’s Faith Parr and Emily Westgerdes, who had only lost three matches all season, lost 6-0, 6-3 to Brandy Stoker and Haley Augsburger.

South Adams golfers third
BLUFFTON — Cal Clouser tied for match medalist honors, but didn’t get much help from his teammates as the South Adams golf team finished in third Tuesday at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
Oak Hill won the three-team meet with a 174. Norwell was second with a 186. The Starfires scored a 195 for third.
Clouser’s round of 39 was identical to Oak Hill’s Cody White and three strokes better than the rest of the field.

Derek Fox posted a 46 as the No. 2 score for South Adams, which also got rounds of 54 and 56 from Jacob Rife and Brad Green respectively.
Marcus Teeter (64), Corbin Swygart (65) and Nick Wurster (74) also competed for South Adams.

Stars fall to Panthers
BUTLER — The South Adams softball team managed to do what only three other teams have done all season.
It held the top-ranked team in Class 2A to three runs or fewer.
The Class 2A No. 1 Lakewood Park Christian Panthers scored one run in each of the third and fourth innings Monday to beat South Adams 2-0 in the opening round of the Class 2A Sectional 36 at Eastside.
Lakewood Park (26-0) advances to the semifinal game against Bluffton.
Panther pitcher Mikeila Boroff allowed only two South Adams hits, a double by Alaina Johnston and a single by Katelin Augsburger. She also fanned 15 Starfires (8-13) to push her season total to 276 for the season.
Chloe McRobbie led the Panthers with a double, a triple and an RBI.
Augsburger took the loss for South Adams, giving up two earned runs on five hits. She also struck out seven and walked four.
On Saturday, the Starfires went 1-1 as invitational hosts, falling to Monroe Central 5-1 before turning around to beat Wabash 22-5.[[In-content Ad]]
