Arabians wallop JCHS
JCHS football
PENDLETON - The Arabians proved Friday that their record did not match their ability.
Pendleton Heights' football team entered the game against the Patriots with just a single win to its name. But Jay County High School could do little to slow the Arabians down as they trampled their way to five first-half TDs on the way to handing the Patriots a 42-0 defeat.
It was an overall domination for Pendleton Heights, which out-gained JCHS 434-64.
Ravaughn White and Desmond Nunn each found the end zone twice for the Arabians (2-5) in the first half.
White scored on runs of 3 and 6 yards in the second quarter. Dunn's magic number was 31 as he reached the end zone on a 31-yard run to open the scoring and a 31-yard pass from Mitch Patishall with 21 seconds left in the second quarter to push Pendleton Heights to a 35-point lead.
Jay County (2-5) played without key players for the third straight game. Starting quarterback Zach Cash missed the game with an injury suffered last week at Connersville, and leading receiver Ben Vance was serving the second game of a suspension for a violation of team rules.
Michael Daniels, the JCHS leading rusher, was out two weeks ago in the Patriots' game at Muncie Southside because he was serving a school suspension.
Nunn led a varied rushing attack by the Arabians, who gained 317 yards on the group, with 107 rushing yards. Patishall finished 8-of-11 through the air for 117 yards as Pendleton Heights racked up 21 first downs.
The Arabians 1-5 start to the season came against some difficult competition. The five losses came against opponents with a combined 23-7 record headed into Friday night, including defeats at the hands of undefeated Class 4A No. 6 Delta and undefeated Class 4A No. 9 Shelbyville.
More than half of Jay County's total yardage came on a single play as freshman quarterback Brock McFarland, starting in place of Cash, connected with Patrick Williams for a 34-yard pass play. McFarland finished 1-of-6 passing in his debut.
Daniels gained 48 yards on 19 carries for the Patriots, who suffered their fourth straight loss.
After playing three in a row on the road, Jay County will return home Friday to host Muncie Southside in the homecoming game at 7:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
