Architect hired for SA autitorium project (02/15/06)
South Adams School Board

BERNE — An architect who will oversee the renovation of the auditorium at South Adams High School was hired Tuesday.
John Lamson of the architectural firm of Lamson & Condon Inc. was approved by the South Adams School Board.
Lamson indicated that architectural consultation on the project, which includes renovation of the auditorium, the concession area east of the cafeteria and the lighting and sound system in the auditorium, would not exceed $65,000 — including a $15,000 consultation with a firm specializing in theatrical lighting.
Lamson will provide a project timetable for board review at the next meeting.
The board also approved the replacement of vehicles used by the maintenance department.
Dave Vorhees, head of maintenance for South Adams schools, recommended selling the dump truck and yellow equipment truck and replacing them with a used truck with attached plow for snow removal and also a used equipment truck.
The cost of the truck with attached plow was estimated at $24,608 from Moser Motors, Portland, and a new equipment truck was estimated at $11,625 after trade-in.
Vorhees said he would be unlikely able to sell a 1976 white bus used by the maintenance department as it is in poor working condition and replacement parts are no longer available.
Vorhees said the replacement was necessary as the bus was no longer reliable and the dump truck needed repair prior to nearly every use.
The bus will not be replaced, leaving the maintenance department with two vehicles rather than three.
In other business, superintendent Connie Bailey discussed the $226,952 paid to South Adams schools as a result of an influx of revenue at the state level.
Gov. Mitch Daniels ordered that $156 million statewide be paid to schools. The state previously delayed payments to schools in order to balance the budget.
“It’s not additional money,” said Bailey. “It is not beyond what the state allotted for us. It is money we were owed anyway.”[[In-content Ad]]
