Area residents get degrees

Two Portland residents recently graduated from Vincennes University.

Jennifer Dirksen received an associate of applied science degree in commercial art/computer graphics.

Daniel Johnson received an associate of applied science in agribusiness.

CHILD CLINIC

The Jay County Well Child Clinic will be open on Tuesday, July 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The clinic is located at 521 S. Wayne St. in Portland and is open to Jay County residents who are without insurance or who are underinsured.

Services include: Youth and children physical examinations; TB tests; Lead screenings and children’s developmental delay screenings.

Appointments are needed for physical exams and TB tests.

A sliding scale fee up to $20 may be applied for some services depending on family income.

The clinic is funded by United Way of Jay County.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross will be having an open house on Thursday, July 15, from 5 to 6 p.m. at its headquarters at 325 E. Washington, Muncie.

Everyone is welcome to attend and learn about opportunities to help their community through the Red Cross.

MINNETRISTA EVENTS

Dog Days of Summer will be held during Minnetrista Cultural Center’s Farmer’s Market on Saturday, July 17, from 8 to 10 a.m.

Muncie Obedience Club will be there to teach children how to interact safely with dogs. The club will also perform K-9 agility and doggy square dancing demonstrations.

FORT WAYNE STOP

Anne’s Hallmark, 719 Northcrest Shopping Center, Fort Wayne, will present PM Rocks on Saturday, July 17, from 1 to 4 p.m.

PM Rocks is a collection of five Precious Moments figurines that form an all girl band.

The music oriented program allows girls to go backstage and dress up like a movie star, then go on stage with their friends and lip-sync and dance to their favorite tunes.

HOSTS NEEDED

The Foundation for Intercultural Travel (F.I.T.), a state department designated exchange visitor program, is currently matching international students with host families in our area.

Students arrive about one week before school starts and bring their own spending money and have their own medical insurance.
