Area residents honored at Red Cross luncheon
Taking Note
Three Jay County residents were honored at the American Red Cross Blood Services, Indiana-Ohio Region’s annual recognition luncheon in Fort Wayne.
Betty Sue Manor and Dick Manor received the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for serving the community at blood drives.
Eldon Campbell received the Outstanding Blood Donor Award for the donor with a combination of highest donation frequency and highest lifetime donations.
Campbell has donated 138 units in his lifetime and six times in the past year.
Library special
A special for students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade will be held Friday, Nov. 19, from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. at Jay County Public Library.
There will be snacks and crafts and activities available.
Also ideas will be discussed for future programs.
Registration is required. For more information or to register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Teams compete
Fort Recovery FFA Soil Judging teams competed in the District and State Soil Judging contests.
The rural soil judging team placed first out of 25 teams in the district. The team consisted of members Jacob Alig, Nathan Fortkamp, Zach Guggenbiller, Doug Lennartz, Gusty Link, John Link, Melissa Lochtefeld, Elliott Post, Samantha Tobe and Jacob Whitacre.
The urban soil judging team placed fourth out of 19 teams. The team consisted of members Eric Brackman, Kurt Fortkamp, Craig Fullenkamp, Taylor Guggenbiller, Jessica Kaiser, Brian Keller, Sam Muhlenkamp, Kelly Nietfeld, Aaron Sutter and Kendra Tobe.
The teams moved on to state competition with the rural team placing second, with member Nathan Fortkamp placing first individually, and the urban team placing 18th.
New officers
The Fort Recovery Pioneers 4-H Club recently chose new officers.
Andrea Lennartz — president, Craig Hart — vice president, Elizabeth Hipple — secretary, Brenda Link — treasurer, Emily Siegrist — reporter, Monica Fullenkamp — assistant reporter, Elizabeth Osterloh, Ethan Muhlenkamp and Logan Ranly — recreation officers, Emily Hart and Tracy Fortkamp — health and safety.
