Arts Place to display the work of area students (03/15/06)

In observance of Youth Art Month, the 2006 Regional Student Art Show, entitled, “My Place in the World,” featuring artwork by area students, will be displayed in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery at Arts Place beginning Thursday and continuing through April 29.
There is no admission charge to see the display. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A reception to recognize the students and instructors of the region will be held Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.
The display will feature works by students from Blackford, Delaware, Henry, Jay, Madison, and Wayne counties in Indiana and Mercer County in Ohio.
Throughout the year, area art teachers have selected some of the more intriguing creations of their students for inclusion in the exhibit.
February students
West Jay Middle School recently announced its Students of the Month for February.
In sixth grade was Jessica Ooten, the daughter of Barbara Mink.
In seventh grade was Wes Price, the son of Chris and Donna Price.
The eighth grade winner was Sarah Shrack, the daughter of Mike and Cindy Shrack.
Volunteers needed
The Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva is in need of volunteers to give guided tours, help in the gift shop, keep the flower gardens beautiful, help during special events and with various wetland projects.
Anyone interested in volunteering may register on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Limberlost, 200 E. Sixth St. in Geneva.
The site will reopen on April 1 and will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, call (260) 368-7428.
Benefit concert
In celebration of March as Red Cross Month, a benefit concert will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the Cornerstone for the Arts, 520 E. Main St., Muncie.
The concert will feature inspirational and worship music by local musicians Toni Davis, Tabathia Kates, Keith Lavoie and Sarah Scharbough, the Delaware County Community choir and Jennifer Stanley.
Admission is free. An offering will be taken to benefit the Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross. For more information, call (765) 284-3361 or visit www.redcross-hhc.org.[[In-content Ad]]
