Asaoka earns award

A foreign exchange student was named as one of the top players in the Allen County Athletic Conference.
South Adams High School’s Hirotaka Asaoka, of Japan, was the lone Starfire to earned All-ACAC first-team honors in boys soccer when the awards were announced Wednesday.
L.J. Moser, Kevin Garza and Dustin Dellinger were all named to the second team.
Asaoka led SAHS in goals this season with six. He also had a pair of assists.
Dellinger totaled nine assists and four goals this year for a team-best 17 points. Moser averaged more than 15 saves per game, and Garza earned the honor for his work on defense.
SA football sixth
INDIANAPOLIS — South Adams stands as the sixth-ranked team in Class 1A headed into its final regular-season game Friday against Southern Wells.
The Starfires (7-1), whose last winning season came with a 7-4 record in 2001, picked up 120 poll points in this week’s Associated Press poll to finish tied with Rockville for the No. 6 spot. They finished 26 points behind No. 5 North Central (Sullivan) and 40 ahead of eighth-ranked Milan.
Lafayette Central Catholic (8-0), the two-time defending state champion, is No. 1 after earning every first-place vote. Undefeated squads Pioneer and Linton are ranked second and third respectively.

EJMS 7th wins
GAS CITY — The East Jay Middle School seventh grade volleyball team dominated the deciding game Wednesday for a 25-20, 21-25, 15-2 victory over host R.J. Baskett.
Lizzy Schoenlein led the Chiefs (14-7) to the victory with 16 service points, including an ace, five assists and one kill. Sydney Baughman finished with five service points and two aces.
Abby Barcus totaled seven kills, and Audrey Shreve added four kills.[[In-content Ad]]
