Fred Haffner

Fred E. Haffner, 84, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., died Thursday in the Alive Hospice in Madison, Tenn. A native of Portland, he is a former resident of Muncie.
Born in Portland to Ralph and Josie (Hoover) Haffner, he is survived by his wife, Norma Glentzer, whom he married on June 13, 1948.
Haffner was a member of the Church of Christ and worked at General Motors in Muncie for 30 years. He served with the Army Medical Corps during World War II.
He was a member of American Legion Post 211, Portland, for 66 years.
Surviving are one son, David Haffner (wife: Jerrie), Old Hickory, Tenn.; two daughters, Carol Myers, Muncie and Beth Rompilla, Smyrna, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Flint Redwine presiding. Burial will follow at the Limberlost Cemetery in Bryant with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 211.
Visitation is Monday from 12 to 2 p.m.
