New dentist in town
Dr. Malcolm George has purchased the Jay County dental practice of the late Charles Miller from the Miller family.
A native of Milaca, Minn., George received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from St. Olaf’s College in Minnesota then joined Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis in 1991.
While with Lilly, he attended Indiana University School of Dentisty, graduating in 2002.
George, 43, has been commuting from Noblesville but plans to relocate in Jay County soon. He and his wife, Carolyn, have three sons in elementary school.
Though not originally from this area, he has family connections to both Celina, Ohio, and Hartford City.

Hospice hires
State of the Heart Hospice has announced the hiring of two new employees at its Portland office, 410 West Votaw Street. Brandy Wilson of Portland has been hired as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Krista Comer of Winchester has been hired as a Registered Primary Nurse.
The non-profit agency helps patients and families in eastern Indiana and western Ohio who are confronting a life limiting illness.

Annie’s acquires
Annie’s, 306 E. Parr Road, Berne, the craft and nostalgia media division of Berne’s family owned DRG, recently acquired Candice Jensen Productions, creator of the PBS television show “Knit and Crochet Now!”
“Knit and Crochet Now!” features host Brett Bara alongside knitting and crochet experts and reaches about 250 million people, according to the show’s creator.
“Knit and Crochet Now!” joins other Annie’s enterprises like Crochet World and Crochet! Magazines, various craft kits, new books and websites.

Healthy living event
The Mercer Healthy Living Series is offering a program on memory loss Monday, Sept. 24 called “What’s Normal? What’s Not?” at Mercer Health, 800 W. Main St., Coldwater, Ohio in meeting room 1.
The guest speaker will be Lynn Ritter, Ph.D., education coordinator, Alzheimer’s Association of Northwest Ohio.

Accreditation
Mercer Health, 800 W. Main St., Coldwater, Ohio, recently announced the certification of its cardiovascular rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
The one-month application process requires extensive documentation of the program’s practices. Each program is reviewed by the AACVPR national certification committee and certification is awarded by the board of directors.
The certification is valid for three years.

New VP
A rural Union City company recently announced the hire of a new vice president of sales.
Frank Miller Lumber, 1690 Frank Miller Road, Union City, announced they had recently hired Mark Hoffman as vice president of sales for the company, making him responsible for directing the marketing and sales activities of the organization. Hoffman comes to the company with an MBA in business management from Pepperdine University and a B.S. in electrical engineering from DeVry University.

Shred day
Second National Bank will be offering a community shred day from 9 until 11 a.m. on Sept. 22.
This free event, which will take place at the Second National Bank North Office parking lot, 1302 Wagner Ave., Greenville, Ohio, will allow residents to shred paperwork containing sensitive information, such as bank statements, legal documents, or tax records. CDs, DVDs, VHS and cassette tapes will also be accepted. SNB asks those who attend to limit what they bring to no more than five medium-sized boxes.

Business leader
E. Roy Budd, President/CEO of Energize-ECI Inc., recently announced that Indiana has been ranked fifth in the Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States Study in 2012. The study takes into account new jobs, capital investment and various other factors of economic development.
The next closest northern state in the study was Ohio, which ranked 20th.

Wal-mart woes
The Indiana Electrical Workers Pension Trust Fund IBEW is a lead plaintiff in a case against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. regarding a bribery scheme in Mexico.
The small union pension fund holds $750,000 worth of Wal-Mart’s $253 billion in stock, but were a leading charge in the lawsuit saying Wal-Mart had swept an internal investigation of bribery in its Mexican subsidiary under the rug. Several investors have filed suit, but the Indiana pension fund took a different approach and demanded that Wal-Mart hand over company documents related to the allegations, which they are entitled to inspect as company shareholders.
The Delaware judge overseeing the case cited the pension fund’s action as the right strategy.

Job boost expected
Nature’s Fuel, 421 E. Cook Road, Fort Wayne, recently announced its increased investment in a plan to build a waste recycling plant in Huntington.
When first announced, the company predicted the project would create 150 new jobs. As the project began, however, the company faced financing and permit setbacks.
President and CEO Glenn Johnson recently said he has new investors to announce in the project, which initially proposed the creation of a plant that would have been more than 125,000 square feet.[[In-content Ad]]
