Author to speak at JCPL (07/26/07)

The author of the syndicated column "The Rest of Us" will speak in Portland on Oct. 11 as the highlight of the community reading program at Jay County Public Library.

Jacquelyn Mitchard's books are the focus of the Jay County Reads Jacquelyn Mitchard program this fall at J.C.P.L.

Her syndicated column appears in The Commercial Review and in newspapers nationally.

Mitchard's first novel, "The Deep End of the Ocean" was chosen as the first book for Oprah Winfrey's televised book reading club.

Discussion groups will take place at J.C.P.L. on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.; Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.; Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. and Sept. 28 at 10 a.m.

Lunch with Jacquelyn Mitchard will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 11 at the library . Free tickets will be available at the library. She will also have a book signing and question and answer session at 7 p.m. at Arts Place that evening.

Studying abroad

Shonda Sutton, a junior at Indiana University in Bloomington, is studying at the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal, Africa.

She participates in the Summer Study Abroad Program that partners with IU and the University of Oregon-African International Studies Program. Shonda is the daughter of Harold and Cindy Sutton, rural Portland.[[In-content Ad]]
