Author to speak on great Wyandot Chief

Author Linda Stephens will present a program on Sunday at 3 p.m. on the great Wyandot Chief Leatherlips at Fort Recovery State Museum. Stephens is the author of “They Called Him Leatherlips” and “Remembering Leatherlips.”
Also independent scholar John Christian Rummel will present “On the Eve of Revolution: Lord Dunmore’s War of 1774” on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m. Rummel has spent the past 22 years studying the Middle Woodland/Hopewell period, the North American Indian and 18th century military history.

Winners
Betty Settle Drinkut won first place in the other format section at the National Stereoscopic Association Exhibition. Her entry was an anaglyph of two young people hanging upside down on a monkey bar.
Steve Drinkut won second place in the other format section for his entry of an anaglyph of a walnut tree and a rainbow taken in northern Jay County  and second place in the stereo card section with his 12 card series taken at the Hartford City Civil War Reenactment.
The 36th National Stereoscopic Association Convention was held in Huron, Ohio, and attracted 3-D enthusiasts from around the globe.

Arts Place classes
Arts Place, located at 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland, is offering the following Innovations classes:
Competitive Advantage: Taking Your Booth to the Next Level on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. There is no cost.
Clay for Kids for students eight to 13 will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for six Mondays beginning Sept. 13.
Clay for Adults will be held from 6:15 to 8 p.m. for six Mondays beginning Sept. 13.
Classical Bellydance will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. for six Wednesdays beginning Sept. 15.

Aerobic Bellydance will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. for six Mondays beginning Sept. 13.
MusicWorks classes begin Aug. 30 and continue through Dec. 17. Individual 30-minute lessons are available in violin, viola, cello, woodwinds, brass, percussion, voice, guitar, harp and piano.
MusicWorks classes are also available in group instruction. Classes are East Walnut Street Strings, Distant Thunder Percussion Ensemble advanced and intermediate, Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble, Brassissimo brass ensemble, Brown Paper Sax saxophone ensemble, Vox Altus adult choir, Community Band, Music Theory and Stateline Singers.

Dunkirk concerts
Thunder Road (formerly R & R Classics) will perform a free concert on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at Dunkirk Webster-Depot Park. The group will sing 1960’s rock-n-roll to present day rock-n-roll.
The concert is sponsored by the City of Dunkirk and hosted by Dunkirk city officials. Concessions will be available at 6 p.m.

Book donations
Friends of Jay County Public Library are accepting book donations for the annual book sale to be held Saturday, Aug. 21, at the library.
Books, in good, clean condition, can be dropped off until Tuesday, Aug. 24, in the community room.
