Babysitting class scheduled (03/18/08)
Taking Note
The Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a babysitting training course for those 11 years and older. Participants will learn how to handle an emergency or illness, how to diaper and dress infants, how to prevent accidents, how to feed babies and prepare simple foods, how to perform basic first aid and how to interview for a job.
The course will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 204 E. Arch St. in Portland from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will receive a Red Cross Babysitters certification upon completion.
A sack lunch will be needed. The cost of the course is $25 and pre-registration is required. To register, call (260) 726-9530 or (800) 480-4403.
Lincoln talk
Bruce Wissel of Richmond will speak on "Abraham Lincoln, a Politician" on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at the Jay County Historical Museum.
Wissel majored in history and political science at Indiana University, belongs to several Civil War and historic organizations and is a member of the Richmond City Council.
The museum is located at 903 E. Main St. in Portland.
Day camp
The second annual Horse and Pony Non-Riding Pre-Clinic Day Camp will be held April 19 at Bearcreek Farms Country Resort indoor horse show arena in Bryant.
The show is targeted for the needs of 4-H kids. Horsemanship, showmanship and IQHA classes will be mandatory and three other optional classes will be offered. The classes will be in lecture form.
Sign-in will be from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and the camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fee is $10 to pre-register and includes lunch and a t-shirt. The cost the day of the clinic is $15 and will not include a t-shirt. Parents may attend classes with their children and one free lunch will be given to a parent.

Dean's list
Jessica Muhlenkamp has made the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. She is a freshman majoring in civil engineering. Her parents are Theresa and Allen Muhlenkamp.
Ian and Mitchell Thomas have also made the dean's list at Rose-Hulman. They are both juniors majoring in computer engineering. Their parents are Jo and Randy Thomas, Pennville.
Adam Ford, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, has also made the dean's list. He is the son of Terri and F. Dwane Ford, Portland.[[In-content Ad]]
