Babysitting class scheduled (10/16/2008)
Taking Note
A Safe Sitter class for girls and boys ages 11 to 13 will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Jay County Hospital.
The class will be taught by Carrie Wilcox, community education nurse at the hospital. She will teach how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children and infant and child CPR.
The cost is $25 and scholarships are available. To register by Friday, call (260) 726-1853.
To speak
Dr. Mamie McCullough will speak on Friday to East and West Jay Middle School and Blue River Jr./Sr. High School girls from 10 to 11 a.m.
Dr. McCullough is the author of five books, including "I Can. You Can Too!," "Get It Together and Remember Where You Put It," "I'm Not Waving, I'm Drowning" and "Rules for Success."
She worked with author Zig Ziglar for ten years and Ziglar remarked of her presentation "You will laugh and cry and end up with hope and a plan of action."
A brunch with Dr. McCullough will also be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the high school.
The 3 R's
Author and educator Paula Statman will present the program "Respect, Responsibility, and Risk Taking: The 3 R's Every Child Should Learn" on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at South Adams High School Auditorium.
Statman has appeared on the Today Show and Oprah and is the author of "Raising Careful, Confident Kids in a Crazy World," "Out of Harm's Way: Teaching Kids to Be Safe and Strong" and "Life on a Balance Beam: It Helps If You Don't Look Down."
