Bader breaks cousin's mark

WINCHESTER — Eliza Bader gave the Jay County Summer Swim Team another record-breaking effort Monday in a 2,945-1,843 victory over the host Randolph County YMCA Sharks.
Bader turned in the best time in team history as she won the 8-and-younger short freestyle in 16.94 seconds. Her cousin, Anne Vormohr, set the previous mark of 17.24 in 2006.
Sydney Mathias and Alex Bader teamed to take every event in the 11-12-year-old girls division. Mathias won the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley while Bader was first in the butterfly, breaststroke and short freestyle.
In the 15-and-older girls events, Eme Miller took the 200-yard freestyle, butterfly and backstroke, and Mary Hudson was first in the individual medley, breaststroke and short freestyle. Lance McCowan posted victories in the 8-and-younger boys long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle, and Neal Fennig earned the top spot in the 15-and-older boys 200 freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle.

Sprunger powers
Braydon Sprunger racked up six RBIs Monday as both games were decided by double digits on the opening night of the Portland Junior League Rookie baseball tournament. Ponderosa defeated Williams Auto Parts 20-10, and Jay County Monuments defeated Barnett’s Auto Parts 25-14.
Sprunger led the effort for Ponderosa with four hits, including and inside-the-park home run in his final at bat, four runs and six RBIs. Sam Myers added four hits and four runs.
Landon Grimes led Monuments with two triples, a home run, three runs and six RBIs. Bryce Collins had four hits, four hits and four RBIs for Barnett’s, Mitchel Trobridge notched two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Williams.[[In-content Ad]]
