Bader leads weekend of career bests for Jay (11/13/07)

NOBLESVILLE - The Jay County Winter Swim Team turned in a big effort at the Noblesville Icebreaker Invitational this weekend, getting career-best times from 20 of 23 swimmers.

Alex Bader led the effort, turning in nine career bests as she won eight of her 10 events. She took first places in the 8-and-younger girls 25-yard freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 25 butterfly, 50 butterfly, 25 breaststroke, 50 breaststroke and 100 individual medley.

Anne Vormohr was the only other Jay County athlete to score a victory, winning the 10-and-younger girls 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Sophie Bader finished as the runner-up in two events, and Cady Farlow finished second in one.

Others turning in top-five efforts were Sydney Mathias, Sam Miller, Sok Vormohr, Brayden Collingsworth and Caitlin Mark.

Stars fall to Norwell

OSSIAN - South Adams' seventh grade boys basketball team suffered a 31-19 loss Monday in its season opener against the Host Norwell Knights.

Chase Mosser scored five points to lead the Starfires. Tim Horton and Blake Fox each added four points.

Miles second in two

FORT WAYNE - Courtney Miles was second in a pair of events to lead Gym City Gymnastics at the Pumpkin Classic Nov. 3 and 4.

Miles finished second on the Level 5 balance beam with an 8.675 and the uneven bars at 7.75. She added third-place scores of 8.65 on the vault and 33.075 in the all-around.

Malarie Houck, Lizzy Schoenlein and Miles all earned state qualifying spots with all-around scores of 32 or better.

Miranda Hibbard's 9.1 on the beam broke Schoenlein's Gym City record for Level 5.[[In-content Ad]]
