Bader sets record

Middle school roundup

OSSIAN — While Sophie is preparing for the state meet Friday, Alex Bader broke her older sister’s record.
Alex swam to a time of 27.54 seconds in the 50-yard butterfly, nearly a quarter second faster than the elder Bader’s record of 27.78, as the Jay County middle school swim team placed fourth Tuesday at the Norwell Invitational.
The Jay County team, made up of students from both East Jay and West Jay middle schools, scored 179 points. South Adams won with 303 points.
Indian Springs was second with 286, and Norwell scored 206 for third.
Bader also placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of one minute, 12.92 seconds.
Kaitlyn Dow, Elizabeth McDowell and Erica Hathaway teamed up with Bader for a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay team of Breea Liette, McDowell, Bader and Hathaway placed fourth.

Eagles fall to Stars
BERNE — Four West Jay wrestlers picked up victories Tuesday, but it was not enough as the Eagles fell to the Starfires 39-22.
 Mitchell Ferguson (115-pound weight class) needed just 43 seconds to pin his opponent, and Danny Kilgore (130) and Chase Gillette (135) earned pins in the second period.
Gavin Corwin won by a 9-0 decision in his 120-pound match.
In reserve action, Braden Lawhorn (105) won by a 12-10 decision, and Devin Wagner (110) shut out his opponent, winning by a 12-0 major decision.
McLaughlin leads Eagles
DUNKIRK — Storm McLaughlin scored 10 points and Trevon Vore added nine as the West Jay sixth grade boys basketball A team beat West Side, 32-25.
The West Jay B team also beat West Side, 14-8.
Brinnin Wasson scored six points for the Eagles’ B team, and Peyton Nichols added five points. Evan Lowe tallied three points for West Jay, which also got two points each from Carter Mitchell and Dylan Bowler.
Dylan Bland, Mitchell and Bowler all scored four points for the West Jay B team, and Nichols added two in the win for the Eagles.

EJMS B team wins
Four different players scored for the East Jay sixth grade girls basketball B team, as the Chiefs beat Muncie Northside 8-7.
The EJMS A team lost, 29-3.
Alyssa Leonhard, Makenzie Fairchild, Shadie Canterbury and Macey Weitzel all scored two points for the East Jay A team.
For the B team, Taylor May scored two points and Kristy Robbins added one.[[In-content Ad]]
