Bader wins four in swim opener (10/23/06)

FISHERS - Sophie Bader had a big day Sunday as the Jay County Winter Swim Team opened its season at the Central Indiana Aquatics Meet at Fishers High School.

Bader was first or second in each of her 10 events in the 8-and-younger girls division. She picked up victories in the 25- and 50-yard freestyle and 25 and 50 butterfly.

Five other swimmers also finished in the top three in at least one event, with Wiley Young doing so six times. He was the runner-up in the 11-12-year-old boys 200 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle while finishing third in three other events.

Anne Vormohr had three top-three results in the 9-10-year-old girls competition, and Ashley Mark was in the top three twice in the 8-and-younger girls division. Alex Bader (8-and-younger girls) and Cori Vormohr (15-and-older) girls each added one first-place finish.

Schoenlein, Witt excel

NEW CASTLE - Lizzy Schoenlein and Katie Witt each turned in outstanding efforts as gymnasts from Portland's Gym City Gymnastics competed Oct. 15 at Gymnastics Junction in New Castle.

Schoenlein finished first in all but one event of the 7-8-year-old Level 5 competition for a winning all-around total of 30.475. She won the vault (8.0), balance beam (8.35) and uneven bars (6.325) and was the runner-up on the floor exercise (7.8).

Witt was second to Schoenlein in three events and won the other, finishing second all-around at 28.375. She pulled out a narrow victory on the floor (7.85) and was second on the vault (7.5), beam (6.7) and bars (6.325).

Also adding top finishes were Courtney Miles in second with an 8.3 on the 6-7-year-old Level 4 floor exercise, and Hannah Kaup as the runner-up with an 8.85 on the 10-11-year-old Level 4 vault.[[In-content Ad]]
