BERNE — Citing health reasons, Connie Bailey, who has been Superintendent of South Adams Schools for the past five and a half years, announced she is retiring at the end of June.
South Adams School Board of Trustees President Arlene Amstutz said Thursday that Bailey’s letter of retirement will be submitted for board approval at the regular meeting on March 14.
Her retirement will be effective June 30. Bailey has been superintendent at South Adams since July 1, 2000.
Amstutz said that while Bailey has had health problems recently, the board has not yet begun a search for a new superintendent and does not have any candidates in mind.
“We can’t do anything until we act on Connie’s retirement at the March meeting, and then we will start a superintendent search,” said Amstutz.
Bailey said she is still hopeful that a contract agreement can be reached with the South Adams Teacher’s Association before her retirement takes effect, adding that she felt a negotiation session Tuesday went well.
“We are just waiting to see. We don’t have an agreement yet, but the meeting on Tuesday was very positive,” she said.
Amstutz said she hopes a new superintendent will take the position July 1, 2006.[[In-content Ad]]
