Longtime Jay County residents Frederick Merlyn and Vernia Mae Bailey, 167 West 200 South, Portland, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.
Frederick married Vernia Mae Corle on Dec. 25, 1946, at the home of the Rev. Otto Hollowell on West Main Street in Portland. The couple was wed in a double ceremony with Paul Spitzer and Thelma Smith.
Frederick was a furniture dealer and Vernia was secretary, sales person and manager at Bailey Furniture on West Main Street in Portland. Both retired on Dec. 31, 1999.
They are the parents of Gregory A. Bailey, Aberdeen, Ohio, Phillip A. Bailey and Marvin A. Bailey, both of Indianapolis. They have five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
