Bank changing its name next fall

Pacesetter Bank, which has offices at 1221 N. Meridian St., Portland, and 714 N. Main St., Dunkirk, has announced a name change planned for next fall.
Beginning Oct. 1, 2013, Pacesetter Bank will operate as Citizens State Bank, which has been its sister bank in other Indiana counties for about 50 years.
“The costs of regulatory compliance are essentially doubled as we continue to operate the two banks separately,” said Dan Maddox, Senior Vice President of Branch Development. “By blending the two charters into one, we will have a stronger company as a whole.”

Energy seminar
Jay County REMC will host an energy efficiency seminar Tuesday.
The program, which is aimed at anyone who is building or renovating a home, begins at 6 p.m. with a light supper provided at 5:30 p.m.
Speakers include representatives of Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union, Sharon Wall of Wall’s Tax Service, Scott DeHoff of DeHoff Insulation and Tony Toennis of EnerTech GeoThermal.

Hughes wins award
Hannah B. Hughes, CPA, the accounting manager at Bollenbacher & Associates LLC, 215 E. Pearl St., Portland, was recently chosen as a recipient of the 2012 Emerging Leaders Award from the Indiana CPA Society.
The Emerging Leaders Award recognizes members under the age of 35 who have been identified by their peers as up-and-coming leaders in the CPA profession.
Hughes has worked at Bollenbacher since 2007. She is currently the leader of the accounting team, which includes an accounting senior, accountants, and paraprofessionals.
Hughes is the treasurer for the Portland Rotary Club and is a member of the Jay County Advisory Group and Jay County 20/20 Vision Organization. She will receive her award on Nov. 16 at the Annual CPA Celebrations Awards banquet in Indianapolis.

Dr. DeGroff attends seminar
Dr. Steven DeGroff of Family Eye Care attended the Indiana Optometric Association Annual Fall Conference in Bloomington on Oct. 3.

Topics presented included the use of corneal measuring instrumentation for fitting of specialized contact lenses, the latest research and the newest treatments for age-related muscular degeneration, and nutritional advances related to eye disorders.
Family Eye Care has offices at 150 Forest Park Drive, Berne, and 310 S. Oak St., Winchester.

Workhorse Custom shutting down
Workhorse Custom Chassis in Union City is shutting down after doing business there for 12 years.
The company, which operated the world’s largest strip chassis manufacturing line from its facility on S. Ind. 32, opened in Union City in 1999. In 2009, the company issued a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification to the Indiana Department of Workforce development, saying the company was going to reduce its size by about 90 employees. In 2011, the company issued a second WARN notice saying it was going to lay off another 173 employees.
On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for Navistar International Corporation – Workhorse’s Illinois-based parent company – announced the Union City plant would produce its final chassis on Wednesday.
The company plans on keeping a small number of employees to help wind down the factory over the next few weeks, a Navistar official said.

Natural gas prices remain low
Natural gas prices have remained stable and relatively low over the past three years, translating to manageable bills for Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana – North customers.
The utility company recently announced that its customers could see bills that are as much as 5 percent lower. Abundant gas supply in the U.S. has resulted in lower natural gas costs, causing bill amount to have decreased by about 40 percent since the winter of 2008-2009.

Tyson audit program
Tyson Foods Inc., parent company of Tyson Mexican Original in Portland, has announced the launching of a program to audit the treatment of animals at the livestock and poultry farms that supply the company.

Bell on display
Bell Aquaculture of Redkey and Albany, the nation's largest yellow perch farm and pioneer in sustainable fish farming operations, is exhibiting its new OMRI-Listed ‘Fish Rich Organic 2-2-2 Fertilizer’ at the 2012 Garden Writers Association (GWA) Annual Symposium October 12-15 in Tucson.
Norman McCowan, president of Bell Aquaculture, said, “Fish have been used as soil fertilizer since the Native Americans first began farming our nearby land centuries ago.  Our organic plant fertilizer, currently marketed as Fish Rich, is made from the remains of the Bell Perch processed at our aquaculture facility in Indiana.”  Fish Rich has already been tested by a number of gardening writers since launching at the National Hardware Show in May. [[In-content Ad]]
