Bank closing timetable detailed

More details have been released regarding the timetable for closing the downtown Dunkirk branch of First Financial Bank.
While the bank branch is scheduled to close on Friday, Aug. 24, safe deposit boxes should be emptied by Tuesday, Aug. 21, Karri Steckler, regional market manager — central Indiana region, said in a letter to First Financial customers.
Steckler explained, “As part of the transition, current safe deposit boxes will not moved to a different banking center. If you currently have a safe deposit box at the Dunkirk banking center, please visit us to remove the contents before Tuesday, Aug. 21. We invite you to take your items to the Hartford City banking center and arrange for a safe deposit box there — your rental fee will be waived for the first year when you open a new box at this location.
“If you have not removed the contents from your safe deposit box at Dunkirk by Tuesday, Aug. 21, it will be drilled on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Please contact our client service center at (877) 322-9530 to coordinate the retrieval of contents from your drilled safe deposit box,” Steckler said.
In addition she explained that all bank accounts, currently maintained at Dunkirk, will be transferred to First Financial’s Hartford City branch at 101 W. Washington St.
“We are committed to making this transition as easy as possible for you. The staff at the Hartford City banking center will welcome you and take care of your needs for financial services,” Steckler wrote in the letter.
Also she pointed out, “Any person wishing to comment on the proposed banking center closing may file comments with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Director for District Licensing, One Financial Plaza, Suite 2700, 440 S. LaSalle St., Chicago, Ill., 60605. Comments should be received by the proposed closing date.”
Dunkirk’s downtown bank facility has a history that dates back to 1893 when it was organized in the Gas Boom era, as First National Bank of Dunkirk. Since then it has had various owners and names including First National Bank of Dunkirk, First Bank of Dunkirk and First State Bank. The current building at 218 S. Main St. was constructed in 1975.
First Financial Bank currently has 71 branch locations in Ohio, 63 in Indiana and four in Kentucky. Wyman’s statement did not say if any of the other branch locations were scheduled for closure in the immediate future.
Other First Financial branch locations include Fort Recovery, Ohio, as well as Van Wert, Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio; Bloomington, Carmel and Indianapolis in Indiana; as well as Edgewood, Florence and Hebron in Kentucky.
First Financial employs more than 1,500 associates and has assets of $6.3 billion overall.

National Safety Month
Dunkirk area Servpro Industries, Inc. owners want to remind community homeowners to review safety tips as part of National Safety Month.
The organization advises people to always take special safety precautions, including controlling lint buildup in clothes dryers, keeping fire pits in open areas away from overhanging trees and checking gas grills’ propane hoses for cracks and brittleness.
Servpro Franchise System is a provider of fire and water cleanup and restoration services, as well as mold mitigation and remediation.

Indiana changes
Morton Marcus, director emeritus of Indiana Business Research Institute at Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business, thinks Indiana gubernatorial candidates and state lawmakers need to make financial changes.
Marcus said while Indiana may have a surplus, government is cutting back on services to people.
People with mental and physical disabilities have been hurt the most by budget cuts in services, he said.  [[In-content Ad]]
