Bearcats top Jay swimmers

MUNCIE — Jay County High School’s swim teams each suffered losses Tuesday to the Muncie Central Bearcats, the girls team by a 115-71 score and the boys 140-40.
Eme Miller took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle for the Patriots (9-3-1) girls, winning in 5 minutes, 59.92 seconds. She was also second in the 200 freestyle.
Charlotte Becot won the 100 freestyle in 57.93, and was second in the 100 backstroke. Megan Taylor scored 178.25 points to win the diving competition.
Jay County’s boys (2-8) went without a victory, and Neal Fennig posted their only second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:19.58. Third-place efforts came from Caleb Hummel, Alex Sutton, Wiley Young and Fennig.
Kaitlin Kerrigan, Emmy Rawson, Zach Haller, Tim Miller and Dan Proctor all won two events for Muncie Central.

JC freshmen fall
The Jay County High School freshman boys basketball team dropped a heart breaker 41-39 Tuesday to the visiting Wapahani Raiders.
The Patriots had a one-point lead in the final seconds, only to have Wapahani steal the win on a 35-foot shot at the buzzer.
Zane Shreve led the Patriots with 23 points. Brennen Krieg and Colin Saxman each added five points.


Eagles drop two
PONETO — West Jay Middle School’s boys basketball teams each lost by six Tuesday to the host Southern Wells Raiders, the eighth grade squad 48-42 and the seventh graders 37-31.
Nate Brackman, one of only three eighth graders on the eighth grade team, led the way with 19 points. Case Retter added 15.
In the seventh grade game, Will Watson scored 14 points for the Eagles (7-4). Daniel Meranda had six points and 10 rebounds.

EJMS boys lose
MUNCIE — East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team lost 41-35 Tuesday to the host Delta Eagles. The seventh graders lost 41-18.
Nick Clemens scored 12 points for the EJMS eighth grade squad (8-4), which trailed by 10 after three quarters. Zach Pryor finished with nine points.
In the seventh grade game, Bryce Hensley scored eight points to lead the Chiefs. Cody Davis and Levi Moyer added four points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
