Bellmont defeats Patriot JV (10/11/2008)

Jay County High School's junior varsity volleyball team fell 25-19, 25-24 Thursday to the visiting Randolph Southern Rebels.
Taylor Burris set the pace for the Patriots (8-9) with eight points, five digs and two kills. Tanner Martin had seven assists and six points, and Maria Murphy added seven kills and two blocks.
Lacey Randolph totaled six digs, Megan May had five digs and Becky Muhlenkamp and Sierra Weatherhead each chipped in two kills.
Eagles top Montpelier
MONTPELIER - West Jay Middle School swept Montpelier Thursday, winning the eighth grade volleyball match 18-25, 25-20, 15-4. The seventh grade team dominated the first game in a 25-8, 25-20 victory.
Shelby Shirk powered the Eagle eighth graders with 16 points, 12 of which came in the decisive third game. Laura Morrison added nine points.
Betsy Huffman had 14 points, including six aces, for the WJMS seventh graders. Ashley Motter scored 13 points.
Fort falls to 'Skins
ST. HENRY, Ohio - Fort Recovery Middle School's seventh grade football team, fell just short Thursday against the St. Henry Redskins in an 8-6 defeat. The eighth grade team lost 28-6.
The Indian seventh graders trailed 8-0 at the half, but Kyle Timmerman scored the potential tying touchdon on a 17-yard run in the fourth quarter. However, the Tribe missed on the two-point conversion try.
Trent Kaiser had the lone TD for the Fort Recovery eighth grade squad on a 27-yard run.
Westside tops WJMS
UNION CITY - The West Jay Middle School boys cross counry team lost 15-48 to Union City Westside. Neither girls team had enough runners for a team score.
Miranda Gerber had the best finish for the Eagles, placing second in the girls race in 13-minutes, 41 seconds. Jenna Starr was fourth in 15:09 followed by Mykala Garyson (seventh - 15:54) and Lynsay Buckland (eighth - 17:55).
Kyle Selvey was the top runner for the WJMS boys in sixth at 14:28. Keegan Gerber joined him in the top 10 in ninth at 15:02 ahead of Kyle Murdock (11th - 16:03), Jordan Wood (12th - 16:04) and Jon Lowe (13th - 18:05).
Alexander aces
Don Alexander recorded his first career hole-in-one Friday at Portland Golf Club.
Alexander aced the 178-yard, par-3 18th hole using a 7-iron. Clyde Bray witnessed the shot.[[In-content Ad]]
