Bellmont tops Patriot netters (04/19/07)

DECATUR - The Squaws showed why they were regional qualifiers last year and plan to be back there again in 2007.
Bellmont's girls tennis team was dominant Wednesday night, handing Jay County a 5-0 loss.
The closest the Patriots came to taking a set was in the No. 2 doubles match, where Cindy Muhlenkamp and Megan Knittle bounced back after being shut out in the opening set. They pushed Brean Smith and Jamie Bergdoll in the second, but still fell, 6-0, 7-5.
Jay County (3-2) managed to win just a single game in each singles match, with No. 1 player Carissa Wilkins suffering her first loss of the season 6-1, 6-0 to Ashley Huffine. Megan Adams fell 6-0, 6-1 to Sara Worling at No. 2 singles, and Heather Ayers suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to April Erxleben at No. 3 singles.
In the No. 1 doubles match Jessica Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel fell to Abbie Doan and Quinci Huffine 6-2, 6-2.
Junior varsity
Mariah Clark turned in the only victory of the night as the Patriots fell 8-1 to Bellmont.
Clark, who moved up to No. 2 singles against the Squaws, knocked off Cori Geyer 8-5. No other Jay County player won more than four games.[[In-content Ad]]
