Benefit concert set for Saturday (08/11/06)

The Gospel Melodies will present a concert to benefit The Jayland ARC (advocates for persons with developmental disabilities in Jay County). The concert will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 323 S. Meridian Street, Portland.
The group is comprised of Joann Witherspoon, Ken and Cheryl Seiber, Sharon Farmer and Phil Thompson.
Refreshments will be served following the concert. For more information, call (260) 726-6416.
Community day
The Ridgeville Volunteer Fire Department will host a community day on Saturday in Ridgeville. A miniature pony pull will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a hot dog lunch at noon.
A car show will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and a D.J. will play music. There will be a cake walk at 3 p.m. and kids games at 6 p.m. The Volunteer Fire Department will serve a noodle dinner from 4 until 8 p.m.
Museum program
The Jay County Historical Society will present a special program on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. with local resident Jeffrey Crown. He will talk about his collection of Jay County postal history.
The Jay County Historical Museum is located at 903 East Main Street in Portland. Admission is free.
Finger printing
Portland Moose Lodge will be finger printing the children of Moose members on Monday, Aug. 14, beginning at 4:30 p.m. School supplies may also be picked up at this time.
Rug exhibit
A traditional rug hooking exhibition will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, through Saturday, Aug. 19, at Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio. Sauder Village is a historic village where skilled craftsmen make baskets, pottery, tin, wooden buckets, glass marbles and more.
The display will feature hundreds of hooked rugs and there will also be workshops, lectures and an Antique Road Show and Tell display.
Sauder Village is on state route 2, just north of Turnpike Exit 25 in northwest Ohio. For more information, call (800) 590-9755.
Attends program
Alex Loucks of Portland recently attended The Horizons Sophomore Leadership Institute in Snowbird, Utah. Horizons is a challenging and proven leadership program for Sigma Chi underclassmen. Loucks is a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at Wabash College.[[In-content Ad]]
