Berne festival set (09/05/2008)

The Berne Heritage Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at Swiss Heritage Village, Berne.

Music will be performed in the tent from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Civil War Camp will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a Civil War skirmish and medical demonstration at 1:30 p.m.

Children's games and contests will be from 11 a.m. to noon; a pony pull will be held at noon; 1880 vintage baseball will be played at 1 p.m.; saw mill demonstrations will be at 10 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m.; a cider press squeeze will be at 3:30 p.m. and Baumgatner Church will have a hymn sing at 4 p.m.

Safety program

The West Jay Optimist Club will have a Tri Star Safety Program on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Westlawn Elementary in the front parking lot. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and children, of all ages, may ride their bicycles to the program. Parents are encouraged to attend.

The program will be held from 10:30 a.m. until noon and will include the Dunkirk City Police, Dunkirk City Fire Department and Jay County Emergency Medical Service staff. Prizes will be given.

Banquet to be held

The 41st annual Mason-Knights of Columbus Banquet will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, in the Mary Help of Christians Undercroft at 6:15 p.m. Russell Herner of Bellevue, Ohio, will have a slide demonstration.
