Bishop Luers eliminates Stars

BERNE — The Starfires’ season ended with a shutout.
The Bishop Luers Saints knocked out the host South Adams High School boys soccer team 6-0 Thursday in the semifinal round of the sectional tournament.
Nick Strack scored two of the four first-half goals for Bishop Luers, which improved to 12-4-1. The Saints will play Heritage, which defeated Woodlan 4-0 Wednesday, in the sectional championship game Saturday at 2 p.m.
Also adding goals for the Saints were Adam Perolio, Meron Ghebermichael, Jacob Murphy and Williams Johnson.
L.J. Moser had 13 saves for the Starfires (2-14) in the season-ending loss. It marked the ninth time this season they have lost in shutout fashion.

Spikers knocked out
MONROEVILLE — South Adams’ volleyball team dropped out of the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday with a 25-11, 25-14 loss to the Leo Lions.

Alyssa Bluhm led the Starfires with four digs and two kills in the match hosted by Heritage. Ashlynn Jennings added two kills and two blocks.
South Adams fell to 7-18 with the defeat.

Girls win ACAC
WOODBURN — The South Adams Middle School girls cross country team took the top three spots Thursday on the way to winning the Allen County Athletic Conference Championship at Woodlan with a score of 25.
The boys team was third out of five with 65 points.
Kara Seffernick won the individual girls title for the Starfires, finishing 10 seconds ahead of runner-up teammate Hannah Coates in 12 minutes, 6 seconds. Olivia Von Gunten was third for SAMS in 12:32 ahead of Lauren Klaehn (seventh – 12:59) and Julia Grabau (12th – 13:13).
Jared Ford turned in the top time for the South Adams boys, finishing in 11:16 for sixth place. Jared Ford was 10th in 12:00 followed by Wyatt Miller (16th – 12:44), Paul Neuenschwander (18th – 12:47) and Briar Goodwin (23rd – 13:03).[[In-content Ad]]
