Bishop Luers sweeps Stars

BERNE — With one of their key players missing, the Starfires’ passing suffered.
The South Adams High School volleyball team struggled to a 25-20, 25-20, 25-11 loss Monday to the visiting Bishop Luers Knights.
Ashlynn Jennings had 17 assists for SAHS, which was without libero Lauren Smith because of a concussion. Alyssa Bluhm added eight kills and three blocks, and Brittany Potts added four kills.
The South Adams junior varsity team won 25-16, 25-20 with Loren Sparks recording four kills, three digs and two aces. Kylea Pierce had four kills and three digs, and Potts notched seven assists and two kills.
The Starfires lost the freshman match.

Jay JV/freshmen fall
MARION — Jay County suffered a 28-14 loss Monday to the host Eastbrook Panthers in freshman/junior varsity football.
Andrew McShane scored a rushing touchdown for the Patriots, and Drew Huffman added a TD on a quarterback sneak. Matt Blackford ran in for a two-point conversion.
Brandon Muhlenkamp had an interception.

EJ splits with St. Joe
DECATUR — The East Jay Middle School eighth grade volleyball team knocked off host St. Joe 25-21, 19-25, 15-9 Monday. The seventh grade team lost, 25-20, 25-22.
Lizzy Schoenlein had another big match for the eighth grade Chiefs (17-4) with 10 digs, eight service points, seven assists, five aces and four kills.
Britlyn Dues added eight digs and five kills, and Abby Barcus had six service points and four aces.
Nina McShane had two digs and a kill for the seventh graders (6-13), and Irene Braun finished with two service points and two aces.
