Bishop Luers tops Starfires

BERNE — The visiting Bishop Luers Saints handed the South Adams High School volleyball team a 25-13, 25-8, 25-11 defeat Monday.
Taylor Farlow finished with eight digs, four kills and two blocks in the defeat for SAHS (3-26), and Alyssa Bluhm had 11 assists. Chelsea Bollenbacher added four kills and four digs.
Molly Page finished with eight digs as the junior varsity Starfires lost 21-25, 25-16, 15-10. Jody Potts totaled six assists.
South Adams also fell 25-10, 25-7 in C-team action.

Stars awarded
Blake Bauman was the lone South Adams player named to the All-Allen County Athletic Conference first team last week.
Three of Bauman’s senior classmates joined him by earning second-team honors. Those players were Zack Sharp, Gabe Sprunger and Josh Ehr.

Jays defeat Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman football team dropped a 32-12 decision Monday to the St. John’s Blue Jays.
Alex Wenning scored both touchdowns for the Indians (3-3), who trailed 20-6 at halftime. He had a 2-yard TD run in the first quarter and added a 1-yard score in the third.

WJ eighth wins
WARREN — West Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team picked up a 25-10, 25-16 victory Monday over host Salamonie. The seventh graders fell 25-20, 25-22.
Tyrah Westlake led the Eagle eighth graders with 15 points, including four aces. Courtney Finnerty added seven points.
Emilie Walter racked up 16 points for the seventh grade squad. Logan Miller scored four points.

Chiefs fall in three
DECATUR — The East Jay Middle School volleyball teams each lost in three games Monday. The eighth graders fell 25-18, 23-25, 15-13 to host St. Joe, the seventh grade team lost 19-25, 25-17, 15-11 and the sixth graders dropped a 25-8, 23-25, 15-11 decision.
Malarie Houck’s nine points and seven assists paced the eighth graders, who are now 9-11. Jessica Kerrigan scored seven points, and Breanne McIntire had five kills.
Hannah Lykins finished with 11 points, including five aces, for the seventh grade Chiefs (12-8). Ava Kunkler totaled 10 points.
Gracie Runkle finished with six points and three digs to lead the sixth graders. Deanna Chenoweth scored four points.

Haggard keys victory
Luke Haggard scored the only goal Saturday, leading the Sharks to a 1-0 win over the Wizards in the Jay Community Center Fall Soccer League.
In JCC’s Fall Flag Football League, Josh Dowlen’s three touchdowns led the Colts to a 20-12 win over the Bears.
In other soccer action, Allen Dues had the highest scoring game with eight goals. Allen Dues scored six times, and Zaaron Lee finished with five goals. Alex Abbott scored three times to help his Dynamite tie the Sharks, and Matthew Paquette had the lone goals in the Inferno’s 2-0 victory.
Bennet Weitzel, Quinn Faulkner and Jackson Lyons all joined Dowlen in scoring three TDs in flag football.[[In-content Ad]]
