Blackford downs Stars (02/14/05)

BERNE — In a battle of teams trying get find some success before tournament time, the Blackford Bruins got the big performance in the final quarter. Mark Isenberg scored 10 of his game-high 14 points in a 19-point fourth quarter for Blackford as it edged the South Adams Starfires 53-49.

South Adams (2-13) trailed by four after the first eight minutes, but held the Bruins to four points in the second quarter to go up 26-19 the half. However, the lead slipped to just two points heading into the final period and Isenberg led his team to its second victory in its last three games.

Blackford (4-13) also got 14 points from Caleb Seidner and another 11 from Jesse Fennell.

Three players also scored in double figures for the Starfires, with Brandon Liechty setting the pace with 13. Jordan Sharp and Grant Moser each added 11, and Justin Caffee scored eight.

SA season over

MONROEVILLE — South Adams’ girls basketball team got a bye to the semifinals, but could make it no farther in the Heritage sectional as it lost 68-51 to the Woodlan Warriors Friday night.

Woodlan (14-8), which went on to lose the sectional championship game 66-44 to Fort Wayne Harding, controlled the game from the outset, taking a 20-11 lead after one quarter. South Adams was still down by nine points heading into the final period, but got outscored 18-10 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Kelly Bradtmueller paced the Warriors with 18 points and three assists. Lindsey Bradtmueller had 14 points and four assists, and Laura Hoeppner also scored 14 points.

Danae Lengacher scored nine points, and Leigh Wells added eight points and a team-high four rebounds.

Kindle Inniger led the Starfires (2-18) with 16 points. She also had four assists.

Julie Muhlenkamp joined her in double figures with 11 points. She notched a double-double with 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive end, and also had three blocks.

Erin McCollum scored eight points, and JoLyn Yoder had five rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
