Blackford tops Starfires (11/17/2008)

HARTFORD CITY - If only the scoring had come earlier.

South Adams High School's girls basketball team scored more points in the fourth quarter Friday than in the first three as it lost 41-29 to the host Blackford Bruins.

The Starfires are now 1-1 after winning their season opener 33-23 Thursday over Daleville.

Scoring was a struggle as South Adams trailed just 4-3 after the opening quarter. Their deficit moved to four points at halftime, and Blackford outscored the Starifres 12-4 in the third quarter to take control.

Ashton Morgan was the only SAHS player in double figures as she scored 14 points. Tori Kistler added eight points, and Karen Bollenbacher had three.

Kolby Coy, Kelsi Reed and Ali Norton each scored eight points for Blackford.

South Adams lost the junior varsity game to the Bruins, 41-2.

Two Indians honored

A pair of Fort Recovery High School athletes picked up All-Northwest District honors in football.

Frank Thien, who was an All-Midwest Athletic Conference first-teamer on offense and defense, and quarterback Greg Kahlig were both named to the all-district second team.

Thien racked up 14 touchdowns this season. The senior caught 43 passes for almost 700 yards.

Kahlig, a junior, completed 162 passes for 2,363[[In-content Ad]]
